We are in the midst of a summer heatwave and it's the perfect opportunity to go outdoors and spend time working on your much-loved garden. Gardeners spend most of the summer watering, weeding, and watching plants grow. A lot of spring blooms such as pansies, violas and wisteria start to fade once the heat arrives.
Now is a great time to harvest your veg patch and replace with heat-loving annuals such as sweet potato vines, pentas and Hibiscus. These annuals tend to grow quickly in the warm temperatures, so they will provide a beautiful burst of colour in your garden, throughout the summer.
To help keep thirsty animals hydrated in the hot weather, ensure your bird bath is full. This will help little birds keep cool. You can also keep a shallow bowl in the garden for Hedgehogs to drink from. Bees can also get extremely tired in the hot weather and if you see a tired bee, pop a small spoon down with some sugar water on it. This will help to give the little bee the energy boost it needs to carry on pollinating in the summer heat.
The summer is the perfect time to host a barbecue, socialising in the sun in the comfort of your own home. If you're going to host a bbq ensure that your barbecue is cooled and dry before putting back into your Asgard Garden Shed.
